Mother Temple of Bali

Drive around the base of the volcano, Mt Agung, from Tulamben. Our tour includes rice fields, Tirta Gangga (water gardens) and the Kings Palace in Amlapura en route.

The Besakih temple is the greatest of all Balinese sanctuaries, the most sacred and powerful of the island's innumerable temples. It lies at an altitude of 900 metres on the southwestern slope of Mt Agung, offering spectacular views over the whole of southern Bali.

It is not a single temple but a sprawling complex consisting of many separate shrines and compounds, united through ritual and history into a single sanctuary.

Tours includes air-conditioned vehicle and local cultural guide and takes one whole day (about 6 hours round trip). Lunch is not included but both local or western lunches are available.
